It's over. Done. Finito, but the echoes of insane ballin' will stay with us til the next event I reckon. So what did we think of Dallas? Without going on too much I'll give you my 2p.
Going into the event I wasn't too sure who was gonna do what if I'm honest. My boy Chris had a good idea but I was still pretty undecided. Needless to say we both thought Houston Heat would be smashing fools...but I'm not a huge fan, bit dull.
Thursdays games were awesome. I mean who woulda thought Chattanooga CEP would totally destroy San Antonio XFactor 7-1? We didn't, but I'm a bit of a CEP fanboi, fast and aggressive gutsy paintball that is borderline street fighting. Love it!! Thursday also gave us a sneak peak at the contenders. Edmonton Impact were slick and looking good in their Eclipse gear, Heat also looked good as usual with Federov taking something like 16 kills in one game. Vicious looked better and Dynasty showed us that the new squad had really bonded and looked every bit as effortless as the Dynasty of old. Damage were looking good but didn't really do it for us. Ironmen, looked ok but you could tell this wasn't gonna be their event.
As for strugglers, XSV had a stinker which sucks to see our boy JR Brown having a rough time. One of my favourites, Aftershock, were the whipping boys, as were Thunder. 187 Crew looked good but couldn't finish and Infamous looked hard but were very scrappy...the fact that Todd Martinez had jumped ship as coach may have had a hand in that. Shame.
As the days passed and the teams started to show what they were made of we could see that Dynasty, Heat, Damage, Infamous and Impact would be there or thereabouts, although Impact struggled on the Saturday to really do werk. This was a huge shame because J Rab was destroying fools, which is why Chris thinks he's the events true MVP in his eyes...but more on that argument in another post.
Before we get to finals day, you gotta watch the Dynasty v Infamous game on PBAccess on demand, the BEST final point evva!!
So, final. Dynasty v Damage. Damage started strong and steady but as the minutes played out you could see Dynasty playing like they did 10 years ago. My MVP of choice, Ryan Greenspan pretty much ran the show, along with Kyle Spicka and the Harmoniser. The finals game was worthy of being the final with an awesome klutch point with 3.5 minutes to go which swung things for the San Diego boys.
Summary. I wish I coulda been there. The games were so much better than at Cup but I guess World Cup brings a bucket load of stresses. Awesome coverage by Paintball Access as always, Matty and the boys really have their shit locked down!!
Quote of the event had to be Todd Martinez on Dave 'the Beast' Baines. "If he's looking a little larger than usual its because he's been feasting on Russians all morning." Brilliant!
Let hope the rest of the season can live up to Dallas and well done again to San Diego Dynasty.
Peace.
